After a solid weekend of play in Macon and Birmingham, the Bolts headed back to Peoria on Friday, Jan. 12 for another game against the persistent Rivermen, whom have beaten Evansville all but once this season so far. Much like the last meeting in Peoria two weeks ago, the Thunderbolts played solidly up until the third period, as the Rivermen surged back from two Evansville leads in the third period and holding on to win in a shootout, 5-4.
Evansville would strike first as John Scorcia scored on the power play to make it 1-0 at the 1:54 mark, but Peoria would tie it only 17 seconds later with a goal by Nick Miglio. Dylan Clarke would scrap with Mike Economos shortly after the tying goal. In the second period, Scorcia would strike twice to round out his first hat trick of the season with goals at the 5:54 and 13:36 marks to give Evansville a 3-1 lead going into the third. Much like two weeks ago, Peoria would storm back in the third period. Alec Hagaman would score at 4:51 to make it a 3-2 game, and Dakota Klecha tied it for the Rivermen only a minute and three seconds later. The Bolts would briefly regain the lead later, as Frank Schumacher snuck one past Tyler Parks at 8:20 to give Evansville a 4-3 lead. The lead would last only two minutes, as Cody Dion would tie it up on a deflection at 10:24. Nobody was able to score in overtime, resulting in a shootout. Ryan Siiro and Jacob Barber would score in the first two rounds and all four Evansville shooters would be denied, as Peoria was able to complete the comeback against Evansville yet again. The Bolts will have a chance at revenge tonight back on home ice.
For Evansville, John Scorcia potted three goals, Frank Schumacher added a goal and assist, and Jonah Imoo made 31 saves on 35 shots for the shootout loss.
